BACK ON THE ROAD

ABC
THIS IS CASA GRILLO TRES PUNTAS, WHERE WE LEFT OUR CAR DURING THE TRIP TO EUROPE. OF COURSE IT IS SUMMER DOWN HERE SO THE TEMPERATURE, WHICH IS IN THE 30’S, WAS A BIT OF A SHOCK. CASA GRILLO, NORD PEROU OU NOUS AVONS LAISSE LA ROULOTTE PENDANT NOTRE RETOUR. C’EST L’ETE, NOUS SOMMES AHURRIS PAR LA CHALEUR.

ABC
HAVING RECOVERED THE CAR FROM UNDER THE TREES (COVERED IN PLENTY OF GUANO) WE MOVED BACK TO OUR CAMPING SPOT.  EVERYWHERE HERE HAS A HAMMOCK. PERHAPS SOON THEY WILL HAVE THEM IN THE BANKS. RETOUR A NOTRE  PLACE DE CAMPING ET A NOS HAMACS!
ABC
WE’VE BEEN GRILLING QUITE A BIT OF FISH BOUGHT IN THE ZORRITOS MARKET. THE BEEF HERE IS NOT SO GOOD, ARGENTINIAN COWS NOW A DISTANT MEMORY. BARBEQUE DE POISSON  ACHETE AU MARCHE DE ZORRITOS.  LA VIANDE N’EST PAS BONNE, C’EST TANT MIEUX POUR MOI!
ABC
LIFE ON THE ROAD: NOT EVERY NIGHT IS A CAMPSITE BY THE SEA. SINCE CROSSING INTO ECUADOR THIS IS OUR SECOND NIGHT SPENT IN A SERVICE STATION. WE ARRIVED AT THIS ONE IN THE DARK LAST NIGHT, ABOUT 8 O’CLOCK. AT 7 IN THE MORNING IT MIGHT LOOK NICE AND QUIET, BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU WE HAD NEIGHBOURS IN THE NIGHT. A JUGGERNAUT ARRIVED ABOUT 3 IN THE MORNING REVVING HIS ENGINE, RADIO ON, LOUD VOICES, AND THAT’S ON TOP OF ALL THE NOCTURNAL TRAFFIC. SERVICE STATIONS SERVE THEIR PURPOSE BUT BOY THEY ARE NOT PLEASANT TO SLEEP IN – “PASS THE EAR PLUGS!!” – “HOTEL PRIMAX” AH LA VIE  SUR LES ROUTES……LES BIVOUACS NE SONT PAS TOUJOURS  ROMANTIQUES. A NOTRE PASSAGE BIS EN EQUATEUR, DEUXIEME NUIT SUR UNE STATION SERVICE, SOUS LA PLUIE.  QU’  IL NOUS A FALLU PARTAGER AVEC DE NOMBREUX CAMIONS QUI ARRIVENT EN PLEINE NUIT. ” PASSE MOI LES BOULES QUIES”.
ABC
AFTER TWO NIGHTS ON THE ROAD WE MADE IT BACK TO THE COAST, TO HOSTERIA ISLAMAR, WHICH IS A GREAT CAMPING SPOT OWNED BY A SWISS GUY. IN TRUE SWISS STYLE THIS PLACE IS BUILT TO LAST, UNLIKE SOME OF THE PLACES WE’VE SEEN. THIS IS THE MIRADOR OVERLOOKING THE STRAIT BETWEEN ISLA SALANGO AND THE MAINLAND. IN THE “TIME OF THE WHALES” (JULY TO SEPTEMBER) YOU CAN STAND HERE GAZING DOWN AT THE WHALES SWIMMING THROUGH. – ET PUIS ON ARRIVE SUR LA COTE, A L’HOSTERIA ISLAMAR, UN SITE PARADISIAQUE CONSTRUIT  SUR UNE COLLINE PAR UN SUISSE.  VUE SUR LE VILLAGE DE PECHEURS DE SALANGO D’UN COTE, VUE  SUR L’ILE DE SALANGO EN FACE  DU MIRADOR, ET VUE SUR UNE GRANDE BAIE VIDE DE L’AUTRE COTE.  A PARTIR DE JUILLET, LES BALEINES PASSENT ENTRE L’ILE ET LA COTE….IL Y A DONC AUSSI VUE PLONGEANTE SUR LES CETACES.
ABC
LOOKING NORTH FROM OUR CAMPING SPOT THIS IS SALANGO BAY. SALANGO IS A TINY FISHING VILLAGE WITH A FISH MEAL FACTORY (NOT AT ALL SMELLY) AND TRAWLERS LAND HERE EACH MORNING WHERE THEY CONNECT TO A BARGE AND PUMP THEIR CATCH ASHORE THROUGH A SUB-SEA PIPELINE – PRETTY IMPRESSIVE OPERATION, THOUGH QUITE SCARY WHEN YOU SEE THE AMOUNT OF FISH BEING TAKEN. – LA BAIE DU VILLAGE DE SALANGO.   LES GROS BATEAUX DE PECHE ARRIVENT LE MATIN , ET D’UNE PLTEFORME AU LARGE, LA CARGAISON EST ASPIREE PAR UNE PIPELINE SOUS-MARINE JUSQU’A L’USINE. DE PRODUCTION DE FARINE DE POISSON.
ABC
JUST UP THE COAST FROM SALANGO IS PUERTO LOPEZ, WHERE WE WENT TO THE MARKET ON THE BEACH TO RESTOCK ON FISH FOR OUR BBQ (ALBACORE TUNA – VERY NICE) – IN PEU PLUS AU NORD, PUERTO LOPEZ.  IL Y A FOULE SUR LE MARCHE DE POISSON SUR LA PLAGE . C’EST TRES ANIME.  NOUS Y FAISONS NOS EMPLETTES POUR LE PROCHAIN BARBECUE.. CE SERA FILLETS DE THON ALBACORE CETTE FOIS.
ABC
AAAH!! SUNDOWNER TIME – APERITIF O’CLOCK AU COUCHER DE SOLEIL. UN VIN BLANC CHILIEN PAS TRES FRAIS CAR LE FRIGO TOURNE AU RALENTI.
ABC
SUNSET OVER SALANGO ISLAND.

    1. Hi Jan,
Yeah, we are actually cowering a bit in the shade. Already had the lobster-coloured arms and legs, which are now a sea of blisters and peeling skin – quite charming…and bit itchy! We shall be heading inland and upward in a few days…so I guess it’ll be frost-bite next. When it rains it’s wonderful – but I suppose you don’t want to hear that. Love from us both.

  1. Many thanks for recent blogs unfortunately deleted yesterdays after printing .so have a copy . All well at this end apart from colds VML M & D

  2. All looks great, pleased the truck was still there! Look forward to seeing the adventures unfold!

    cheers
    Paul and Kate
